Our Strategy Group will help guide the Task Force’s work to inform the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. Input from Strategy Group members is essential for providing a broader reflection of views and issues across America, as well as the challenges and opportunities that should be addressed on a national scale.
The 1890 Universities Foundation
Established December 2016, the 1890 Universities Foundation supports the core missions of education, outreach and academics across the nineteen 1890 land grant universities in the United States. It is organized and operated exclusively as a 501(c)3 charitable and educational organization.
The 1890 Universities Foundation mobilizes and manages resources to facilitate broad based programs, initiatives, and approaches across the 1890 universities system. We provide a mechanism for the universities to respond to new and emerging issues and challenges in the 21st century. As we foster critical collaborative projects across the 1890 universities, our objective is to discover practical and meaningful solutions to the compelling economic, social and environmental challenges faced by our communities today.
American Academy of Pediatrics
Founded in 1930, the American Academy of Pediatrics is a non-profit organization of 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. In order to achieve this mission, the AAP also enjoys a robust chapter infrastructure in all 50 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico.
American Diabetes Association
The moving force behind the work of the American Diabetes Association is a network of more than 565,000 volunteers, their families and caregivers, a professional society of nearly 16,000 health care professionals, as well as more than 250 staff members.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the world’s largest organization of nutrition and dietetics practitioners founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1917, by a visionary group of women dedicated to helping the government conserve food and improve the public’s health and nutrition during World War I. Today, the Academy represents more than 112,000 credentialed practitioners — registered dietitian nutritionists, nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered, and other food and nutrition professionals holding undergraduate and advanced degrees in nutrition and dietetics, and students — and is committed to improving health and advancing the profession of nutrition and dietetics through research, education and advocacy.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Our Global Headquarters are located in Atlanta, Georgia, and we have regional and local offices throughout the country to ensure we have a presence in every community.
American Heart Association
From humble beginnings, the AHA has grown into the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. A shared focus on cardiovascular health unites our more than 40 million volunteers and supporters as well as our more than 2,800 employees.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
The AHA’s size and scope allow for real impact. The AHA has invested more than $4.8 billion in research, making us the largest not-for-profit funding source for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease research next to the federal government.
American Society for Nutrition
The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) is the leading association of nutrition scientists, advancing excellence in nutrition research and practice through its publications, education, public affairs and membership programs. Established in 1928, ASN’s more than 8,000 members in 120 countries work in academia, practice, government and industry. ASN is the authoritative voice on nutrition and publisher of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, The Journal of Nutrition, Advances in Nutrition, and Current Developments in Nutrition. ASN’s NUTRITION 2022 LIVE ONLINE virtual conference will convene thousands of the top scientific researchers, practitioners, global and public health professionals, policy makers and advocacy leaders, offering the latest and best nutrition research, the opportunity to present research, network with peers, and touch and see the latest products and technology.
Bread for the World
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging the nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. Bread equips people to write personal letters and emails, meet with their members of Congress, and work with others to end hunger. Working through churches, campuses, and other organizations, Bread engages people in organized advocacy campaigns to pass or block federal legislation that will help end hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. Each year, Bread invites faith communities across the country to take up an Offering of Letters to Congress on legislation that impacts people who are experiencing hunger and poverty. Bread works in a bipartisan way. Our network of thousands of individual members; churches and denominations; and interfaith, community, NGO, academic, and corporate partners is active in every congressional district. Together, we are building the political will to end hunger, poverty, and malnutrition.
Center for Science in the Public Interest
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is America’s food and health watchdog. CSPI envisions a healthy population with reduced impact and burden of preventable diseases and an equitable food system that makes healthy, sustainable food accessible to all. CSPI values independence, scientific rigor, and transparency.
Founded in 1971, the Center for Science in the Public Interest is an independent, science-based consumer advocacy organization with an impressive record of accomplishments and a clear and ambitious agenda for improving the food system to support healthy eating.
CommonWealth Kitchen believes in the power of inclusive entrepreneurship to change the world. The business leaders that make up the CommonWealth Kitchen’s network—predominantly BIPOC and women-owned enterprises—bring the passion, talent, and love for their craft. CommonWealth Kitchen provide some of the supports they have not traditionally had access to, like our shared kitchen and manufacturing space, specialized equipment, best practices, and valuable connections. CommonWealth Kitchen are coaches, mentors, and advocates for those whose power has been unrecognized. Since 2009, CommonWealth Kitchen has helped to launch more than 150 diverse food businesses, creating over 500 new permanent jobs, and generating over $65 million annually in combined gross revenue.
Food is Medicine Coalition
Food is Medicine Coalition is an association of nonprofit medically tailored food and nutrition service providers. Their purpose is:
To provide a complete, evidence-based, medical food and nutrition intervention to critically and chronically ill people in their communities
- To advance public policy that supports access to food and nutrition services for people with severe and/or chronic illnesses
- To promote research on the efficacy of food and nutrition services on health outcomes and cost of care
- To share best practices in the provision of medically tailored meals and of nutrition education and counseling.
Hunger Free America (HFA) is a nonpartisan, national nonprofit group working to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food. HFA are both a direct service and advocacy organization — with each component strengthening the other. As a direct service provider, HFA assists low-income families obtain aid from government programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — formerly called the Food Stamp program — and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) so that people struggling to pay their bills have access to nutritious food.
HFA also connects families nationwide with private food resources. Because their staff works daily on the front lines of hunger, and because their work empowers low-income people to speak out on their own behalf, HFA is one of the nation’s most effective advocates for improved economic and public policies.

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) exists to bring our industry together to create a vibrant future for all. Intertribal Agriculture Council
The Intertribal Agriculture Council was founded in 1987 to pursue and promote the conservation, development and use of our agricultural resources for the betterment of our people.
Land-based agricultural resources are vital to the economic and social welfare of many Native American and Alaskan Tribes. The harmonies of man, soil, water, air, vegetation and wildlife that collectively make-up the American Indian agriculture community, influence our emotional and spiritual well being. Prior to 1987, American Indian agriculture was basically unheard of outside reservation boundaries.
Since that time, IAC has grown to prominence in Indian Country and among the federal government agencies and the agricultural field with which it works on behalf of individual Indian producers and Tribal enterprises. The IAC has, over the last three decades, become recognized as the most respected voice within the Indian community and government circles on agricultural policies and programs in Indian country.
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger
For more than 36 years, MAZON has been committed to ensuring that vulnerable people have access to the resources they need to put food on the table. MAZON is a leading voice in the anti-hunger field, developing strategic initiatives focused on communities that are at particular risk of hunger and have often been overlooked.
National Alliance For Hispanic Health
In 1973 as a result of the need for profound changes in mental health services the Alliance was incorporated in Los Angeles as the Coalition of Spanish Speaking Mental Health Organizations. Since then the organization has grown and expanded to reflect the changing needs of the people and communities served.
Today, the National Alliance for Hispanic Health is the premier science-based and community-driven organization that focuses on the best health for all. Community-based members provide services to more than 15 million Hispanics throughout the U.S. every year and national organization members provide services to more than 100 million people annually.
National Association of Community Health Centers
The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) was founded in 1971 to promote efficient, high quality, comprehensive health care that is accessible, culturally and linguistically competent, community-directed, and patient-centered for all.
National Family Farm Coalition
National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) was founded in 1986, at the height of the 1980s farm crisis, to be a voice for farmers in Washington, DC – and we still are.
Today, we are the only national coalition representing grassroots farm, ranch, and fishing organizations in the nation’s capital. Through our 30 member groups, we represent in 42 states. Our members are fighting for farmer rights, fair prices, clean air and water, strong local economies, the right to sell and buy locally-grown and -processed food, the right to be free from corporate domination, the right to live in vibrant and healthy rural communities, and much more.
National Produce Prescription Collaborative
The National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC) came together in spring 2019 with a purpose to: catalyze the vital role of food and nutrition in improving health and wellness by collectively leveraging the unique opportunities for Produce Prescriptions to achieve wellness through the healthcare system, and embedding & institutionalizing Produce Prescriptions within the healthcare payment model.
National REACH Coalition
The National REACH Coalition (NRC) is a national network of community-based organizations that promotes, develops, and implements innovative health equity programs in both urban and rural communities. Our staff and Board of Directors are leaders in the public health field, with years of experience focused on the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities within the United States.
National WIC Association
The National WIC Association (NWA) is the non-profit membership organization for State and local providers of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). NWA is the go-to voice of and for WIC staff at more than 12,000 WIC locations across the country who work to support more than 6.2 million mothers and young children. For over three decades, NWA has worked to build broad, bipartisan consensus for WIC’s programmatic goals and public health mission. NWA provides member-driven advocacy; education, guidance, and support to WIC staff; and drive innovation to strengthen WIC as we work toward a nation of healthier women, children, and their families. Partnership for a Healthier America
PHA employs its vast convening power, diverse network, and thought leadership to develop and spotlight the top programs and practices with the greatest potential to create positive change in the U.S. food landscape. PHA works with organizations across the supply chain – food producers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers – to improve the nutritional profile of foods and beverages wherever consumers are – resulting in a greater volume of healthier options for all. We also collaborate with other non-profit organizations, including food banks, who understand the importance of, not just providing any food to communities in need, but providing the right food to children and families who suffer the most from health disparities caused by lack of access to healthier food options.
ScratchWorks is a collective of school food professionals and non-profit organizations committed to supporting school districts in cooking school meals from scratch using whole, fresh ingredients that provide students with the nutrition they need for their educational success, health, and wellbeing.
Swipe Out Hunger
Founded by a group of students at UCLA in 2010, Swipe Out Hunger is the leading nonprofit addressing hunger among college students. They promote on-campus solutions, policy and advocacy pathways, and student empowerment practices to address student hunger.
Swipe works closely with leaders on-the-ground to not only ensure today’s students have access to meals but to also address student hunger upstream with sustainable legislation and policies, having passed over $102 Million in legislation to end hunger. Their national movement spans more than 450 colleges in all 50 states and has served 4.8 million nutritious meals to date.

The Nature Conservancy is tackling the dual threats of accelerated climate change and unprecedented biodiversity loss. Science determines where we focus and equity guides how we achieve lasting results. Grounded by decades of local on-the-ground experience, we maximize our ability to affect change by bringing together real-world solutions, policy expertise, sustainable financing and collaborative partnerships.
Food insecurity is about providing enough food to those in need. Nutrition insecurity is about providing the right food to prevent or alleviate diet-related diseases like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and obesity. With studies showing that diet-related diseases like diabetes and obesity are driving the highest hospitalization and death rates from COVID-19, it is now more important than ever to address nutrition insecurity head-on.
Wholesome Wave has partnered since 2007 with Community-Based Organizations, in the places they call home, by bringing powerful concepts and seed funding to co-design program approaches that work best for their community. Program concepts are designed to raise and re-invest private funding to demonstrate what might happen if public funding was used more effectively.
